Privacy Policy – Love Without Why

The app has no user account and does not analyse your reading behaviour. Favourites, settings and your optional profile stay on your device. Apple handles the free trial and one-time purchase; RevenueCat verifies them. The website uses Google Analytics only if you consent via the cookie settings.

Translations are provided for convenience only and are not legally binding. In case of doubt, the German version applies.

1. What the app stores on your device

You may optionally save a display name and profile photo on your device for a more personal experience. Neither is sent to me or RevenueCat, and neither is used as a purchase identifier. You can change or remove them in Settings. Only the photo you select is accessed; its saved copy is cropped and re-encoded without the original photo metadata. These local choices may be included in device backups managed by Apple. Your favourites, the quick-help answers already shown (so that answers do not repeat too soon), your chosen language, appearance and app icon, and the counters used for rating requests are stored only locally on your device. The app has no user account and no sync server of its own; I cannot read this data. The cards and texts are part of the app and are not loaded from the internet.

2. Free trial and purchase

The seven-day trial only starts when you choose to start it; Apple confirms it as a free in-app item. The optional one-time purchase is processed by Apple's App Store. I do not receive your name, card or bank details. So that the trial does not start again after reinstalling, the app stores the start of the trial in your device's keychain. App Store Connect provides me with aggregated sales reports. Apple's privacy policy applies to payment processing. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR.

3. Purchase verification through RevenueCat

To verify and restore the trial and the purchase, the app uses the service RevenueCat (RevenueCat, Inc., 1032 E Brandon Blvd #3003, Brandon, FL 33511, USA). When the app connects to it, RevenueCat processes a random, anonymous user ID created by the app, information about the trial and purchase (product, time, transaction ID and store country), technical details such as device type, operating system and app version, and your IP address. The app does not pass your name or email address to RevenueCat. RevenueCat processes this data on my behalf under a data processing agreement; processing takes place on servers in the USA, and the transfer is based on the EU Standard Contractual Clauses. I use the information only to unlock your purchase and for aggregated sales statistics. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (providing the purchase) and Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in reliable purchase verification).

4. Ratings

The app may ask you, using Apple's own system dialog, whether you would like to rate it. Whether the dialog appears is decided locally in the app from usage counters; this information stays on the device. If you rate the app, Apple processes the rating under its own privacy terms.

5. Contacting me

If you write to support@lovewithoutwhy.info or privacy@lovewithoutwhy.info, for example through “Feedback & support” in the app, I process your email address and the content of your message solely in order to answer you. I delete the correspondence when it is no longer needed, unless statutory retention periods apply. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in answering enquiries).

6. No advertising, no tracking

The app contains no advertising and no analytics or tracking SDK. Apart from the store connections described in sections 2 and 3, it does not exchange data with servers. Your usage behaviour is not recorded, evaluated or passed on.

7. This website and hosting

Fonts are served locally; no third-party fonts, maps or videos are embedded. Your language, colour scheme and analytics consent choice are stored in your browser’s local storage to provide the settings you request (Section 25(2) No. 2 TDDDG). These preferences are not used for analytics. The site is hosted by STRATO GmbH, Otto-Ostrowski-Straße 7, 10249 Berlin, Germany. According to STRATO, its web hosting runs in its data centres in Berlin and Karlsruhe. A data processing agreement under Art. 28 GDPR applies to STRATO's processing on my behalf; STRATO lists its sub-processors in Annex 2 of that agreement. When you call up a page, STRATO processes technical server log data, including your IP address. According to STRATO, it stores the IP address for attack detection and prevention for at most seven days. For eligible hosting plans, STRATO also provides anonymised access logs for the preceding six weeks and aggregated access statistics for longer periods. The logs serve the technical operation and security of the site. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in secure and trouble-free operation).

7a. Optional Google Analytics on this website

Google Analytics 4 is loaded only after you select ‘Accept analytics’. If you decline or have not chosen, no Analytics tag is loaded and no Analytics data is sent to Google. With consent, it measures page views, scrolling, external link clicks and downloads, together with browser/device information, approximate location and pseudonymous cookie identifiers. The _ga and _ga_* cookies can last up to two years. The provider is Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland; Google LLC in the USA may also process data. Google describes its transfer safeguards at https://policies.google.com/privacy/frameworks. Google Signals, User-ID and advertising personalisation are not enabled for this website. Legal basis: your consent under Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR and Section 25(1) TDDDG. You can withdraw it at any time for the future via ‘Cookie settings’ in the footer; Analytics is disabled and accessible Analytics cookies are removed. Withdrawal does not affect earlier lawful processing. User- and event-level data retention is set to two months, without renewal on new activity; aggregated reports may remain longer. Details: https://policies.google.com/privacy and https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/11397207.

8. Resetting and deleting your data

In the app under Settings → Data → Reset saved choices you can reset your favourites, the answer history, language and appearance on this device. Uninstalling the app removes the data it has stored. Only the start of the trial may remain in the device keychain so that the trial does not begin again, and your purchase stays with Apple and can be restored at any time. RevenueCat only holds an anonymous ID and purchase information. Because I cannot readily link these to you as a person, a request for access or erasure there needs details that allow them to be matched, such as the transaction ID from your App Store receipt.

9. Android

An Android version of Love Without Why is in preparation. Before it is published, this privacy policy will be extended to cover Google Play and any related processing.

10. Children

The app is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect any data about them.

11. Your rights

You have the right of access (Art. 15 GDPR), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18) and data portability (Art. 20). Where processing is based on Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, you may object to it at any time on grounds relating to your particular situation (Art. 21). You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority (Art. 77). You can contact me at privacy@lovewithoutwhy.info.

12. Changes

If the app changes, this page changes with it. The date below shows the current version.

14. Voluntary support via PayPal and bank transfer

On the developer page you can support my work voluntarily. The link leads to PayPal (PayPal (Europe) S.à r.l. et Cie, S.C.A., Luxembourg). No scripts, buttons or payment forms from PayPal are loaded on this website, and no payment data is collected here. Only when you click that link do you leave this website; a connection to PayPal is then established and your IP address is transmitted to them. PayPal's privacy policy applies to its processing. For a payment, PayPal may provide me with information about the payment and payer, such as a name, email address, amount and transaction ID. If you instead transfer money directly to the IBAN shown, my bank passes on your name, your IBAN and the reference text. I use payment information only to handle the support payment and for bookkeeping, and retain it for the statutory retention periods. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) and (f) GDPR.
